Location of the town

Chepelare is located in the most southerly slopes of the Chernatitsa region of the Rhodopi Mountains at an altitude of between 1094m and 1140m making Chepelare the highest located town in Bulgaria at 1120m. The town is divided by the banks of the Chepelarska (Chaya) River as it makes its decent from the Rhodopi Mountains to the Maritza Valley.
